The Confucius Institute of Suan Dusit University at SuphanburiCISSDUin Thailand, supported by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and co-constructed by Suan Dusit University (SDU) of Thailand and Guangxi University (GXU) of China, is a non-profit institution aimed at teaching Chinese education and promoting China-Thailand cultural exchanges. In June 2006, the Confucius Institute Headquarters of China signed an agreement with the former Suan Dusit Rajabhat University of Thailand (renamed Suan Dusit University in July 2016) to establish the CISSDU at its Suphan Buri campus. This institute was co-founded by GXU, China and SDU, Thailand. On December 27, 2006, CISSDU was officially established. Mr. Banharn Silpa-archa, the 21st Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, conducted the unveiling ceremony. In December 2022, CISSDU had been awarded the title of “Excellent HSK Test Center” for the first time.

Currently, the institute includes a Chinese Cultural Experience Center (located in Li Jiang, Celestial Dragon Village, Suphan Buri Province) and a Chinese Cultural Exhibition Center (at the Suphan Buri campus). It operates one Confucius Classroom and 5 Chinese language teaching sites (Bangkok campus, Lam Pang campus, Hua Hin campus, Trang campus, Nakhon Nayok campus), as well as 25 Chinese language test sub-centers. The institute has established partnership relationships with more than 20 primary, secondary, and tertiary educational institutions in the central and western Thailand. The Chinese Dean, appointed by GXU, oversees the institute's daily operations and coordinates activities related to the Chinese side.

CISSDU has consistently been dedicated to promoting the continuous development of Chinese education in the central and western Thailand. It fully enhances Chinese language curriculum systems across campuses of Suan Dusit University. The institute actively engages in extensive educational cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Thailand, while effectively advancing the “Chinese Language + Vocational Skills” education model. The goal is to establish the institute as a hub for Chinese language education and research, a Chinese language proficiency testing center, and a center for cultural exchange between China and Thailand in the central and western Thailand. The institute aims to provide students and the public in this region with a high-quality platform for Chinese language learning and cultural exchange, contributing its due share to the smooth implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.
