Guangxi University Holds the Opening Ceremony of the Guangxi Research Base of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China

On May 19, the opening ceremony of the Guangxi Research Base of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China and the signing ceremony of Strategic Cooperation between Guangxi University and Capital Normal University was held in Guangxi University. Tian Gang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Democratic League, Leader of the Academic Leading Group of Tianyuan Mathematics Foundation of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Director of Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, Li Anmin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the Executive Committee of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China, Fang Fuquan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, standing member of the Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), member of the Committee of Chinese University Excellent Achievements Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, Deputy Director of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education, President of Capital Normal University, Feng Jiaxun, vice president of Guangxi University, and Liang Enwei, standing member of the Party Committee of Guangxi University, jointly unveiled the Guangxi Research Base.

Liang Enwei, on behalf of Guangxi University, welcomed all the academicians and experts. He said that the decision of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China to set up a Guangxi research base relying on Guangxi University becomes a milestone in the construction of mathematics in GXU, promotes the development of mathematics, and supports GXU’s new round of "double first-class" construction and joint construction of ministries and regions. He further emphasized that Guangxi University would actively integrate the allocation of innovative resources such as platforms, talents and projects inside and outside the university, fully support the construction and development of the Guangxi Research Base, and strive to build the base into a domestic first-class platform for mathematical research and academic exchange, so as to make greater contributions to promoting basic scientific research and promoting the development of mathematics.

Tian Gang stressed that the National Tianyuan Mathematics Fund is a special scientific fund established to promote the construction of a country strong on mathematics, with the aim of giving full play to the role of mathematics research in the source supply and leading role of original innovation, and promoting the cross and integration of various branches of mathematics. As an important hub for promoting China-ASEAN cooperation, Guangxi Research Base should leverage its advantages and characteristics to promote exchanges among young students, forming a broader, broader and higher-level pattern of education internationalization, and striving to promote more innovative and forward-looking exploration in mathematics.

Li Anmin said that mathematics and other basic disciplines are the source of scientific and technological innovation. China now attaches great importance to the development of mathematics, especially in the era of artificial intelligence, mathematics serves our urgent needs to crack hard nuts such as bottlenecks in mathematical advancement. The academic leading group of the National Tianyuan Mathematics Foundation decided to establish the Guangxi Research Base of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China relying on the Guangxi Center for Mathematical Research, mainly to promote the development of mathematics in Guangxi University and its surrounding areas, thus contributing to the development of mathematics in the southwest region.

Fang Fuquan pointed out that Guangxi, as the frontier of opening up to ASEAN, is an important starting point for promoting the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" with ASEAN. Guangxi University has its unique advantages in discipline construction, and Capital Normal University, as a university co-constructed by Beijing City and the Ministry of Education, also has rich experience in the construction and development of its mathematics discipline. The signing of the strategic cooperation agreement between these two universities is a win-win situation for both sides, and the two universities will work together to make greater contributions to the prosperity and development of China's mathematics advancement.

After the unveiling ceremony, GXU and Capital Normal University jointly signed a strategic cooperation agreement, and held a seminar for the development of the Guangxi Research Base of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Southwest China.

Representatives from Academic Committee and Executive Committee of the Guangxi Research Base, School of Mathematics of Sichuan University, CPC and School Affairs Office, Research Institute, School of Mathematics and Information Science of Guangxi University, Guangxi Center for Mathematical Research and other units attended the unveiling ceremony.
