President of the Royal Academy of Cambodia visits GXU

On June 7th, SOK Touch, President of the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC) and his delegation visited Guangxi University (GXU) accompanied by TAING Sokngorn, Consul General of Cambodia in Nanning, and Yang Bin, Chairman of Jinshan High-tech Group. Dr. Xiao Jianzhuang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC GXU Committee and Vice President of GXU, attended the meeting.

Vice President Xiao Jianzhuang briefly introduced GXUs history, construction of disciplines, development of ASEAN students, national key laboratories, and participation in national and world major projects. Xiao highlighted GXU’s world-class discipline development in Civil Engineering as the leading force, so as to support the national strategy with high-quality talent cultivation and scientific research achievements. He also emphasized that GXU practices the concept of green and low-carbon development to facilitate the building of the Pinglu Canal and has set up six discipline clusters and large platforms based on GXUs strengths and features. Xiao stated that as 2024 is the Year of China-Cambodia People-to-People Exchanges, GXU attaches great importance to cooperating with the RAC, hoping to provide assistance in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services to Cambodia, thus working together to create a better future for the China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.

SOK Touch gave a detailed introduction to RACs current research development, building of Confucius Institutes, cooperation with Chinese universities, and the national development and construction of Cambodia. He pointed out that RAC, established in 1965, is the top academic institution in Cambodia, responsible for scientific research and academic exchanges and provides intellectual support for Cambodia's social progress and economic development. The research fields of the RAC cover natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, as well as Cambodian history, culture, and language. He also expressed his hope to sign a cooperation agreement with GXU as soon as possible to engage in scientific research cooperation in areas such as green canals, ecological protection, and agricultural breeding to promote the construction of joint research centers or laboratories, thus contributing to the cultivation of high-level talents worldwide.

SOK and his delegation also toured the campus and visited the large structural testing and research platform of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the development of GXU's "Double First-Class" construction.

The meeting was also attended by heads of the Institute of Scientific Research, International Cooperation and Exchange Department, the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, the School of Life Sciences and Technology, the School of Agriculture, the School of Literature, the School of the Arts, and other schools and departments concerned.
