Work Permit

Applying for a Work Permit

Full time international scholars working in China with a Z Visa or R Visa must apply for a Work Permit through the Office of International Affairs at the Guangxi Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs after their arrival. The following documents are required:

1. REFERENCE LETTER FROM PREVIOUS EMPLOYER including JOB, WORKING PERIOD, and EVALUATION. A Chinese version is necessary if you worked in China.

2. DEGREE CERTIFICATE (authenticated in local Chinese embassy)

Degrees from mainland universities do not need authentication.

3. Certificate of No Criminal Record (provided by local police station or court, authenticated in local Chinese embassy and valid in 6 months. American one should be issued by state police station,) Needs to be translated into Chinese.

4. HEALTH CERTIFICATE

You have to have medical check again in the first 5 days after you enter China.

6. PASSPORT (PHOTO PAGE, VISA PAGE AND LAST ENTRY STAMP PAGE)

7. DIGITAL passport-sized PHOTOWhite background

8. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE (NEEDED IF AVAILABLE)

9. Bilingual CVFor foreign language teacher: At least 2-year teaching experience and bachelor degree. Holders of Education or linguistic degrees do not need teaching experience. But degree needs to be authenticated. Individuals with TEFL or TESOL certification may also be hired without teaching experience.)

10. PASSPORT OF FAMILY MEMBER(S)

11. Marriage certificate for the accompanying spouse and birth certificate for the accompanying child (Authenticated and translated in Chinese.)

12.HEALTH CERTIFICATE OF FAMILY MEMBER(S)

13. A valid identification document is required if you have changed your name (NEEDED IF AVAILABLE).

NOTES:

All documents should be original scanned in color. Authentications of the degree certificate and the certificate of no criminal record by the Chinese embassy are required. All foreign documents should be translated in Chinese, except passports. All above original documents need to be brought to China for verification.

Processing time: 7 to 15 working days

Extending a Work Permit

The Work Permit is generally valid for the same time period as the employment contract, but no later than the passport expiry date. International scholars who continue working in Guangxi University after their first employment term and sign a new contract are required to apply for an extension 50-90 days in advance of their Work Permit’s expiry date. The following documents are required:

(1) Guangxi University application form (in Chinese) with the signatures of their department’s representative(s)

(2) New contract of employment (ORIGINAL, photocopy and an electronic version in color)

(3) Passport (ORIGINAL, photocopy and colored scanned e-copy)

(4) Residence Permit (ORIGINAL, photocopy and colored scanned e-copy)

(5) Work Permit (ORIGINAL, photocopy and an electronic version in color)

(6) Two-inch portrait photos (front-facing, no hat, white background; color electronic version required. Two hard copies for the scholar, one hard copy for each accompanying family member.
