Recently, the probe and Chemical biology team of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Guangxi university has made a breakthrough in the research of small molecule probe visual monitoring of the neurotransmitter molecule "5-hydroxytryptamine". The results were described as "Development of a Highly Specific Fluorescent Probe based on Thiol-ene Click Nucleophilic Cascade Reactions for Delving into the Action Mechanism of Serotonin in Depression was published in the top International academic journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition. The first author of the paper is Yue Lizhou, a doctoral student in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the corresponding author is Professor Lin Weiying. Guangxi University is the only communication organization of the paper.

The probe and Chemical biology team of our university is based on the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the Institute of PhotoFunctional Materials and Chemical Biology of Guangxi University. Professor Lin Weiying, the leader of the team, has been the Editor of the international top academic journal Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical for a long time and is a fellow of the British Royal Society of Chemistry. As the first inventor, he has been granted more than 100 Chinese invention patents. As the corresponding author, Professor Lin Weiying has published nearly 500 high-level papers. These include Nature Protocols, Chemical Reviews, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Angewandte Chemie International. The paper has been cited more than 27,500 times.
