GXU Delegation Visits Universities in Thailand and Singapore

From January 14 to 20, Xiao Jianzhuang, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangxi University Committee and Vice President of the University, visited Thailand and Singapore together with a delegation. The delegation visited Suan Dusit University at Suphanburi, Chulalongkorn University, Kalasin University in Thailand, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.

On January 15, Xiao Jianzhuang and his delegation visited Suan Dusit University at Suphanburi and met with Vice President Pitauk Chancharoe. The delegation also held a symposium with school officials and faculties, including Vice President Pornchanit Kaew-nate, Vice President Waranee Vessoontorntep and Vice President Pachree Suankaew. The two sides agreed to further strengthen their cooperation and expand the scope of cooperation on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding between Guangxi University of China and Suan Dusit University of Thailand on Joint Majors Construction, identifying an initial cooperation plan on the construction of the Teaching Center of Guangxi University Thailand co-built by both universities.

 

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Confucius Institute at Suphanburi accompanied by Panchani Gaona. Also, Xiao and his delegation visited the Chinese Director Wei Yubing, the Thai Director CAI Shuya, the Thai Deputy Director Ke Hydrangqiu and all the teachers to learn about the construction and development of the Institute. Xiao said that the Confucius Institute at Suphanburi, as one of the representatives of Guangxi University on the international stage, is an important window to "share Chinese stories" and a key bridge to promote cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between Chinese and Thailand.

On January 16, Xiao led the delegation to visit Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Kaywalee Chatdarong, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Chulalongkorn University, attended the meeting. Officials from the Faculty of Engineering, School of Agricultural Resources and other faculties and schools attended the symposium. The two sides agreed to cooperate in the fields of civil engineering, machinery, chemical engineering, medicine and other fields on teacher-student exchanges, student joint training, building high-level research centers, and jointly carrying out international cooperation project declaration and research. A letter of intent for cooperation was signed in the symposium. After that, the delegation visited the teaching buildings and laboratories of the Faculty of Engineering of Chulalongkorn University.

From 17th to 18th, invited by the Program Management Unit on Area Based Development of Thailand (PMU-A), Xiao and his delegation attended the signing ceremony of poverty reduction governance cooperation and knowledge sharing between the Unit and Guangxi University of China held in Kalasin University in Thailand. Mr. Sanan Pongaksorn (the Governor of Kalasin Province), Ms. Pasupha Chinvarasopak (Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Thailand in China), Mr.Chartchai Phom-Lert (Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Executive Director of PMU-A), Dr. Kitti Sajjawattana (Director of PMU-A), Assoc. Prof. Jirapun Huaisan (the President of the Kalasin University), Asst. Prof.Dr.Vichayut Juntaree, (the Vice President of Kalasin University), Mr. Wang Qiang (First Secretary of the Embassy of China in Thailand), and officials from more than 20 universities in Thailand attended the signing ceremony and exchanged experiences on poverty reduction. The delegation also visited the "Poverty Reduction Project Achievement Exhibition", "A Learning City-Kalasin" and "Cultural Landscape Management and Community Culture Street". Xiao Jianzhuang said that Guangxi University, as the top university in Guangxi, is willing to participate in the construction of key poverty alleviation projects in Thailand, and looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with PMU-A and universities on knowledge sharing about poverty reduction, scientific and technological innovation and talent training, so as to better implement the "Belt and Road" Initiative and build a China-ASEAN community with a shared future.


On January 19, Xiao and his delegation visited the National University of Singapore, introducing the general situation of Guangxi University and its achievements in recent years in personnel training, scientific research, platform construction, engineering services and international exchanges, as well as the construction of large science facilities to Jat-Yuen Richard Liew, a fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering and Dean of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NUS as well as other officials and experts, expressing the willingness of Guangxi University to cooperate with the National University of Singapore on civil engineering disciplines in an all-round manner.

Mr. Richard Liew introduced the achievements of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of NUS in recent years in personnel training, scientific research and social services, as well as the main development orientations in the future. He said that as a major member of Guangxi University's life-span safety and durable discipline innovation and intellectual introduction base for major civil engineering structures in the New Western Land-sea Corridor, he is willing to work with Guangxi University to carry out personnel training, scientific research and social services with both Guangxi and ASEAN features. The delegation also visited the Experimental Centre of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of NUS.

In the afternoon, Xiao and his delegation introduced the overall situation of Guangxi University and its cooperation with Nanyang Technological University to Liu Hong, member of the Academic Committee of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) and associate Vice president of Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and other officials and experts. Liu also introduced the basic situation and future development plan of Nanyang Technological University and expressed his willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Guangxi University in various fields. The two sides agreed to carry out cooperation and exchanges on teacher-student exchanges, student joint training, joint international laboratory construction, joint project application and joint exploration of ASEAN science and technology in the fields of dual carbon and smart construction in the early stage.

On behalf of Guangxi University, Xiao signed an agreement with representatives of the laboratory of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on the establishment of the "Low-carbon Building Materials and Engineering Carbon Reduction International Cooperation Joint Laboratory" and visited the low-carbon building and smart classroom of NTU.

During the visit, Xiao and his delegation also visited the Confucius Institute at Suphanburi to learn about the work and life of teachers in the institute, and signed the Memorandum of Cooperation Concerning Knowledge Sharing on Poverty Alleviation with PMU-A of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Thailand, a letter of intent with Chulalongkorn University, and an agreement with the director of the Laboratory of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on the establishment of a "Joint Laboratory for International Cooperation in Low-carbon Building Materials and Engineering Carbon Reduction".

This visit saw deep exchanges between Guangxi University with other universities and governmental departments including Suan Dusit University, Chulalongkorn University, Kalasin University, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, etc., Singapore universities and Thailand's regional development Project Management Team, and promoted the cooperation between the two sides in the construction of scientific research platforms, science and technology research, joint educational projects, and student exchange and learning. It has consolidated the foundation of cooperation with universities in ASEAN countries.

The delegation consisted of faculties from Academic Affairs Office, the Scientific Research Institute, the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, the International College, the State Key Laboratory of Characteristic Metal Materials and Composite Structures co-constructed by the province and the Ministry.
