Award Ceremony of Pingnan Third Bridge --One of China’s Top 10 Beautiful Bridges

Pingnan Third Bridge, constructed under the lead of Academician Zheng Jielian, professor of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture in Guangxi University, makes a mark in the “2018-2023 Top 10 Beautiful Bridges Selection”. The selection was launched by Bridge Magazine, aiming to demonstrate the engineering beauty of China’s bridges, inspire the aesthetic taste of the whole society, and foster the industry’s insight into engineering aesthetics. Former Deputy Minister of Transport Hu Xijie acted as the award presenter.

Pingnan Third Bridge crosses the Xun River in Pingnan County of Guangxi. Like a ruby embedded in an emerald ribbon, the span of elaborate rainbow dazzles its brilliance on the river. Like a harp plucking its strings over the waves, the bridge has turned deep chasms into thoroughfares. The construction team has overcome unfavorable geological conditions to implant abutment in silty clays. In Addition, Beidou Satellite Navigation and Positioning System is also used to build the bridge into a truss structure in linear sequence with hundreds of tons of arch ribs. Pingnan Third Bridge has been a new milestone in the history of arch bridge development and a new business name card that represents China’s bridge.

The selection conveys to society that the design of bridge structure should meet some requirements including “environment-friendliness”, “visual aesthetics”, “cultural creativity” as well as “exquisite and unique design” so as to provide inspiration for the public, allowing more people to appreciate and understand bridges on an aesthetic level, cultivating an artistic standards among industry insiders, facilitating a more diverse and cohesive industry, and making bridge builders more honored, recognized, and committed.
