Guangxi University Delegation Embarks on Academic Visit to Hong Kong and Macau

From December 4th to 8th, Xiao Jianzhuang, the Vice President of Guangxi University (GXU), led a delegation to Hong Kong and Macau for an academic visit. The delegation visited institutions including the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Beijing-Hong Kong Talent Exchange Centre, University of Macau (UM), and Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST). During the visit, Dr. Xiao also attended the 2023 Concrete Forum held in Hong Kong and delivered an academic speech.


President Jin-Guang Teng of PolyU met with the delegation, and both parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as joint graduate training and research. The two sides also discussed the establishment of a research institute branch in Nanning by PolyU.


Discussions were held on cooperation and exchanges between HKBU and GXU. Both parties agreed to initiate teacher and student exchanges, collaborative student training in areas such as business, environmental studies, and chemistry. Additionally, they decided to collaborate on establishing high-level research centers, jointly applying for research projects, and conducting research together.


During the visit to Hong Kong, the delegation visited the Beijing-Hong Kong Talent Exchange Centre, engaging in discussions and consultations on how to attract high-level overseas talents. They also held discussions with GXU alumni working and studying in Hong Kong, gaining insights into their experiences. The delegation expressed the hope that alumni would pay attention to and support the development of GXU.


The delegation visited the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering at UM to learn about the establishment of the university’s Residential Colleges. Professor Chen Zheng provided an overview of the research directions and key areas for the key laboratories co-constructed by province and ministry. There was also an exchange of ideas and discussions with scholars from UM.

Vice President Pang Chuan of MUST and Vice President Xiao Jianzhuang of GXU reached a cooperation intention regarding teacher and student exchanges, research collaboration, and other areas between the two universities, on which both parties agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding.


This visit deepened the exchange and cooperation between GXU and universities in Hong Kong and Macau in the fields of academic research, joint educational programs, and student.
