Guangxi University Hosts the 5th Mycology Symposium and 3rd Microbial Pharmaceuticals Academic Conference

From July 21st to 24th, the 5th Mycology Symposium and 3rd Microbial Pharmaceuticals Academic Conference, jointly organized by the School of Life Science and Technology and the State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-bioresources at GXU, took place in Nanning.  Yu Wenjin, Member of the CPC GXU Party Committee and Vice President of Guangxi University delivered an opening speech.

Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician, Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, President of the Globe Industrial Microbiology Society (GIM), Director of the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism, and Professor Deng Zixin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the World Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Microbiology, as well as Professor Zhao Guoping from Fudan University; Vice President of the International Symposium on the Biology of Actinomycetes (ISBA), Director of the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, and Professor Zhang Lixin from East China University of Science and Technology; Vice Chairman of Chinese Society for Microbiology, Professor Qin Zhongjun, and Professor Li Yuezhong; Chairman of the Guangxi Society for Microbiology and Professor Fan Xiaohui from Guangxi Medical University; Executive Director of the Chinese Society for Microbiology and member of the Professional Committee of Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology, Professor Bai Linquan from Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Vice Chairman and Professor He Zhengguo, and Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology, Guangxi University; and nearly 500 representatives from over 120 universities, research institutes, and enterprises participated in the conference, jointly discussing and exchanging the latest research progress and achievements in the fields of Actinomycetes Biology and Microbial Pharmaceuticals.

Academician Deng Zixin delivered the opening address titled "Exploring the Development Direction of Microbial Technology and Industry in the New Era" at the conference. Meanwhile, Academician Zhao Guoping presented the closing address titled "ABCDE of Life Science Research Journey" during the closing ceremony. Professor He Zhengguo from Guangxi University was invited to deliver a special keynote presentation titled "Molecular Mechanisms of Mycobacteriophage Evasion of Host Defenses" at the conference. More than 60 experts and scholars, including National Distinguished Young Scholars, Excellent Young Scholars, Scholars, and Chief Scientists of National Key Research and Development Projects, shared their latest research achievements at the conference. The conference also featured a "Student Forum" and "Flash Talk" session to promote exchanges among young researchers. Twelve outstanding young students from institutions such as the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, China Agricultural University, Shandong University, Zhejiang University, and Tianjin University were awarded for their excellent presentations.

The participants engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges in various fields related to actinomycetes, including actinomycete ecology and evolution, actinomycete physiology, genetics, and developmental differentiation, actinomycete functional genomics, pathogenic actinomycetes, microbial drug discovery, biosynthesis and regulation of microbial drugs, synthetic biology and microbial drug development, microbial natural products, and the control of subtropical crop diseases, as well as the industrialization of microbial drugs.

The conference was jointly organized by the Professional Committee of Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, the Professional Committee of General Microbiology of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, and the Guangxi Society for Microbiology. It was co-sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism, the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, and the State Key Laboratory for Preparatory Development of Microbial Resources.
