Delegation from Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan ,Visits Guangxi University

On January 17th , Governor Ikuo Kabashima of Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, led a delegation to visit GXU. Mr. Yu Wenjin, a member of the GXU’s Party Committee and Vice President, met with the delegation in the First conference room of Junwu Hall. Mrs. Wei Yu, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, also attended the event.

Upon the delegation’s arrival, Mr. Yu Wenjin extended a warm welcome and provided an overview of GXU, highlighting our academic profile, research achievements, and collaborative exchanges with Japanese universities and Kumamoto Prefecture. He emphasized that Kumamoto Prefecture, as Guangxi’s first international sister city, and since the establishment of our friendly inter-regional relationship, fruitful outcomes have been achieved. Mr. Yu Wenjin expressed GXU’s eagerness to share the outcomes of mutual exchanges and deepen cooperation with Kumamoto Prefecture.

Mr. Ikuo Kabashima acknowledged the substantial changes in Guangxi’s urban landscape during his return visit after six years. The bridge of friendship connecting Kumamoto Prefecture and Guangxi has been solidified, fostering his hope for deeper collaboration across diverse domains in the coming years. Serving as the Chairman of Prefectural University of Kumamoto and drawing on his extensive teaching experience at the University of Tokyo, Mr. Kabashima expressed his commitment to facilitating increased cooperation between Guangxi University and Japanese higher educational institutions.

Following the meeting, Mr. Ikuo Kabashima delivered a keynote speech titled “Dreams Amidst Adversity” in the second conference room of Junwu Hall. The iconic Kumamon, representing Kumamoto Prefecture, made a lively appearance, engaging warmly with the enthusiastic faculty and students in attendance.

Over 120 participants attended the event, including representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, representatives from GXU’s Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, and the School of Foreign Languages, along with faculty and student representatives.
